These are the first leaked images of the new MG5 hatchback. MG plan to take on the likes of the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra with this car, it’s based on its  Chinese cousin, the Roewe 350 and is due to be launched at the Beijing Motor Show in March. It’ll most likely have a 1.5 litre engine for the Chinese market, expect it to hit our shores in 2013.

The MG5 is rather different from last year’s concept, it has gained a more rounded front, incorperating the MG6′s styling cues and lost the sharp LED headlights.

The rear has remained faithful to the concept, bar the lack of the sports diffuser. The production model seems fairly well equipped too, with parking sensors, an automatic gearbox and a nice sat nav/media playing centre console.

There’s leather seats and chrome-effect finishing, it has a simple but charming look about it.

We look forward to seeing the MG5 back in Blightly in its spiritual home in the near future.
