In this section, you will discover the basics of the most commonly used features in the Motorious dashboard.

Login into your dashboard

You can login into the Motorious dashboard from any device that is connected to the internet. For that reason. If you change your password. It is highly recommended that you use a good, strong password.

To log into your dashboard. Go to the homepage of your website. In the address bar. Add a forward slash after the web address (if one is not already present). Next. Type wp-admin after the forward slash. Your url should now resemble the following.

Navigating The WordPress Dashboard

If you are familiar with WordPress. You will immediately recognise the dashboard and feel right at home. If not. Don’t panic. You don’t really need to know all of the technical in’s and out’s of WordPress, to use it and most of it is set up for you. You only need to know a few basics .

Having said that. With our setup. You can save a lot of development costs and build a very impressive website, if you invest some time to learn more. Our system allows you to do it yourself, hire us or a mixture of both. WordPress is the most popular website CMS on the planet. There is plenty of useful information online and the official WordPress website is a good place to start.

When you login. You will see a black bar running across the top of the page. I will refer to this as the top bar for the remainder of this article. You will also see a dark grey strip running down the left hand side of the page. I will refer to this one as the sidebar.

Switching between the dashboard and the website

These two menus give you access to all of the tools and features that come with your setup. At the top left of the top bar. You will see a home icon, with the name of your website next to it. If you click on this. It will take you to the homepage of your website.

You will notice that the top bar is now visible on the public facing pages of your website. Don’t worry. This is because you are logged in. No one else can see the top bar.

You will also see that some of the links on the top bar have changed. For example. You now have a link to edit the page that you are currently viewing. If you click on the home icon now. It will take you back to the dashboard.

Commonly Used Features

Some of the most common tasks that you will carry out are:

  • Adding new content. This can be vehicle pages, ordinary pages, blog posts, media, portfolio pages and a few more content types. Although it sounds a bit complex. The actual usage of each type is very similar in nature and you are unlikely to use more than two or three. Many of the individual types will be covered in future articles and tutorials.
  • Viewing a list of content types. Put simply. This will be things like, view all vehicles, view all pages, view all posts, etc. You can navigate to view and edit individual pages from the lists. You can also delete pages and other content types from here.
  • Add new media. View, manage and edit existing media. Most often you will add media like images and videos, when creating pages, vehicle listings and other content types. However, there might be occasions when you want to upload something for general use. This can all be achieved via the “Media” menu item.
  • Updating WordPress and it’s components. Scary stuff yes? Not at all. You just click the mouse to select the things that you want to update and then click the update button.

The image below shows a list of all vehicles. The thing to note here, is that the WordPress top bar and sidebar remain exactly the same. I can still navigate around the dashboard or to and from the live website. I can also navigate to and from vehicles in the list for editing or viewing.

Overview Of Motorious Vehicle Options

By far the most common task that you will carry out is adding and deleting vehicles. This will be covered in the next Motorious tutorial. As well as being able to manage your vehicle inventory. Motorious also offers a few options for styling your vehicle pages. This is something that we will do for you, at the time of building your website but it’s simple enough to learn and handy to know how to tweak your design.

Towards the bottom of the Dashboard sidebar, you will see the Motorious menu item. Hover over or click on “Motorious” to expose its options. The main options page allows you to style the different elements that make up a vehicle page. What each element does will become clear, when you start adding vehicles.

You can also style the look and feel of the vehicle inventory page by clicking the relevant link. Again, this is something that we will do for you, at the time of building your website.

The API settings page is where you will go to set up use of the website builder VRM lookup tool. This is covered in the “Adding vehicles to your website” tutorial.
