What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

When a user submits details to Motorious using a contact form. We will collect the data submitted and the email address of the sender. The data collected will vary, depending on the form that is submitted and the information supplied by the user.

We may keep the information supplied, as a record of our conversation or for customer services purposes. We will not use this information for marketing purposes. We will not share this information with third parties, unless we have permission to do so from the user.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

Who we share your data with

With the exception of our payment processors, we will only share data after receiving permission from the user or if we are required by law to do so.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

User account, transactions, support tickets and billing information may be retained indefinitely, for accounting and record keeping.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. User data is shared with our UK based hosting provider.

Other than data collected for analytics. We do not knowingly share user data outside the European Union.

How we protect your data

We use third party payment processors for all online transactions. We keep records of transactions but do not retain users card details on our own systems.

User data such as blog comments, emails, user account information, billing/transaction information and support tickets are stored on databases. Motorious staff and our hosting providers have access to our databases.

Some data is stored offline on computers and in print. Only Motorious staff have access to this information.

What data breach procedures we have in place

In the event of a suspected data breach. You should contact Stephen Hippel. Imediate action will be undertaken to secure the breach. This will be followed by an investigation. Depending on the type of breach. The investigation will be carried out by Motorious or its hosting providers.

What third parties we receive data from

Motorious receives some limited information about its users, such as, Facebook likes, Facebook reviews and Google reviews. This information is shared with Bright Local and used to improve our users experience. Please see the Bright Local privacy policy for more details.
